100 Years of Television
Open House at Dupont Circle – Friday, June 13th
1519 Connecticut Avenue NW (above Kramer Books)
The public is invited to a special open house at the historic Charles Jenkins Laboratories, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the first public demonstration of television – an iconic moment that happened right here in Dupont Circle. On June 14, 1923, history was made on the second floor of this building with the broadcast of the world’s first wireless motion picture. For the first time ever, a moving image was transmitted through the air and instantly seen in another location.
As you explore the building, you’ll see original photographs of Charles Francis Jenkins and his team at work in his former laboratory. You’ll also have the rare opportunity to step into the rooms where Jenkins’ pioneering efforts helped launch a new era in media. While these rooms now serve as offices, the current tenants have generously allowed us to open them to the public for this one-day-only experience.
Event Schedule:
• Open to the General Public: Friday, June 13, 2025 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
• Location: 1519 Connecticut Avenue NW (above Kramer Books)
