The Korean Cultural Center Washington D.C (KCCDC) warmly invites you to the opening of a new special exhibition, Connecting Lines, on Tuesday, April 21, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
About the Exhibition
The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. presents Connecting Lines, a new exhibition featuring artists Park Hyewon and Kim So Jeong, both selected through the 2023/2024 open call. This exhibition explores the diverse connections of life through the shared visual language of the βline.β
Our daily lives are composed of countless intersecting lines. By revealing cyclical processes within physical space or re-presenting seemingly ordinary moments from everyday life, these two artists visualize the relationships and traces that shape human experience. For them, the line functions not merely as a formal element, but as a fundamental unit that forms and expands connections.
About the Artists
Park Hyewon explores the physical spaces in which human existence unfolds, using the house as a central motif. She employs red thread as her primary material, through which she expresses invisible processes of life such as human relationships, birth, and death. By winding, suspending, knotting, and weaving the thread, she constructs spatial environments that expand into both visual and bodily experiences.
Kim So Jeong draws on the traditional East Asian technique of baekmyo (ink line drawing) as she renders scenes and events depicting everyday life with stark insight. The images she captures are often those overlooked or avoided; by re-presenting them within red-lined forms, she records and reframes various moments and incidents from contemporary life from a distinct vantage point.
