An exhibition highlighting the District’s call for statehood! Curated by Chris Pyrate

Check out this awesome underground exhibition featuring film interviews about statehood, an art exhibit, as well as photography and mural art!

Art by Chris Pyrate and friends

The DC statehood project placed eight different artists with eight different art pieces in each of the participating District Main Street locations during last years Art All Night.  Thousands of residents helped create the art by leaving notes on what statehood means to them. The project curated by Chris Pyrate and included the following artists: Trap Bob, Keyonna, Jamilla, Dieglo, Rikasso, Mensa, and Pzay. The art activation was commissioned in August by Mayor Bowser, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) and the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD).

Film by LANCAR ink

LANCAR Ink partnered with DC for Democracy and DC Vote to learn more about the centuries disenfranchisement of DC residents. DC for Democracy connected LANCAR Ink with members of the DC Statehood Coalition for interviews, and DC Vote provided training for interns and space to conduct interviews. LANCAR Ink's interns coordinated and conducted interviews with elected officials including: Council members Elissa Silverman, Robert White, and Brianne Nadeau, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and Attorney General Karl Racine. In addition to the elected officials,  LANCAR ink spoke with organizers, activists, educators, and DC Residents to create this film.
