Details
The MEI Art Gallery in collaboration with AlSadu Society in Kuwait is pleased to announce its latest exhibition Beyond the Weave: Contemporary Dialogues with AlSadu, an exhibition of contemporary art from Kuwait, inspired by the ancient craft of textile Sadu weaving.
Sadu is a traditional weaving practice rooted in Kuwait’s nomadic desert heritage and sustained for generations by women artisans. Woven historically from sheep and camel wool for tents and household furnishings, Sadu transforms accumulated knowledge into striking geometric patterns, forming a visual language that reflects memory, movement, and cultural identity.
The exhibition features the work of twelve contemporary Kuwaiti artists who reinterpret Sadu’s patterns, materials, and meanings, extending its relevance for new generations and affirming the tradition as a living practice shaped through ongoing dialogue and reinterpretation. The show will be up until Friday, August 21st, 2026.
Participating artists: Fatema AlBader, Noor AlFayez, Hanadi AlMarzouq, Abdulaziz AlRabea, Samaa AlRefai, Salem AlSalem, Jasem AlSanea, Rua AlShaheen, Munirah AlShami, Maha AlShimmery, Ali AlYousefi, Mahmoud Shaker Mahmoud
Lead sponsorship for this exhibition has been provided by the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL), Kuwait.
