Contemporary photographers from across the Gulf have advanced visual culture, capturing scenes that illuminate social and economic change, cultural and gender identities, the environment and community, and nostalgia and the future while presenting space in documentary, conceptual, and imaginative forms. Marking the closing of the exhibition “Making Space: Gulf Photographers on the Scene,” Emirati multidisciplinary artist and writer Ebtisam Abdulaziz, Kuwaiti visual artist Mohammed Alkouh, and photographer and co-founder of Tribe Sueraya Shaheen will hold a conversation moderated by arts administrator and curator Laila Abdul-Hadi Jadallah examining how visual artists from across the region play with the photographic process of change and invite viewers to reconsider public space by rethinking the default image and its function and form.
The program will include a live performance of “A Safe Person to Approach” by Ebtisam Abdulaziz and will be followed by a reception and a tour of the exhibit.
