In conclusion of their project, organizing artists, Lorenzo Piero Holder III and Dr. Vicenzio Holder-Perkins invite visitors on June 20 from 3–5PM for the closing reception of One Stroke at a Time at Washington Project for the Arts Dupont Circle project space (1350 Connecticut Ave NW).

On view during the exhibition’s final week is a new collaborative installation created through our indigo watercolor workshop with ArtEnables. Participants worked in pairs, responding to one another’s marks before transforming their paintings into masks that now form a collective collage.

Centered on indigo, a pigment tied to healing, spirituality, labor, and survival across the African diaspora, the installation reflects on a material that traveled through the Caribbean under plantation economies while carrying knowledge, memory, and cultural practices across generations. What began as individual gestures became a shared work shaped through exchange, trust, and transformation.

Celebrate the closing of One Stroke at a Time and experience this collective installation alongside the collaborative practice of Lorenzo Piero Holder III and Dr. Vicenzio Holder-Perkins!
