On this 3.1 mile, easy-paced running tour, we’ll explore the Avenue of the Presidents and Latino at Heart routes from 22 Walks in Washington, DC That You Must Not Miss.

DC’s 16th street, part of the L’Enfant Plan (developed in 1791) has a storied past. Its nicknames include Avenue of the Presidents and the Road to Heaven (for the 50+ houses of worship from the White House to the Maryland border). On this portion of the route we’ll see numerous embassies, sculptures of ducklings and elephants, and architectural beauties like the Scottish Rite House of the Temple and the Chastleton apartments.

According to our book, the Mount Pleasant neighborhood has attracted immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean since the 1950s. We’ll visit local businesses like Leon’s Shoe Repair, restaurants like Corado’s, and entertainment venues like GALA theatre (originally around the corner from Corado’s).

By running, we’ll get to check off two of the 22 walks—getting you started on your own adventures to explore the remaining walks!
