Across the Pond: #DupontStrong
Category: Neighborhood Spotlight
It’s been quite a year for Across the Pond Restaurant & Pub. After drawing record crowds for Six Nations Rugby, UFC and the Olympic Marathon Trials, things took an unfortunate turn due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rather than focusing on St. Patrick’s Day & March Madness, we had to regroup amid constant change. We began to open for weekend carryout, and our Easter dinners, Cinco de Mayo taco platters, and to-go drinks have been successful.
We opted to close in June to focus on upgrading the restaurant. During this time the Across the Pond team polished the floors, updated the bathrooms, and the location got a brand new paint job. To ensure the safety of our customers and staff, we also hired ServPro to do a certified COVID-19 cleaning before we reopened.
After reopening in mid-July, we worked to secure expanded outdoor dining. We recently added outdoor seating space last month. As cooler weather comes to DC, we hope that the Across the Pond Parklet and back patio attract customers who prefer to dine al fresco.
The return of sports is exciting for us, as we attract tons of soccer and football fans from around the DMV. We currently host friendly (and socially-distant) game-watches for fans of the NY Giants, New England Patriots, Boston College and West Ham, with sound. We're also working on having some televisions added to our outdoor spaces.
We've also added lots of specials, and lowered our menu prices before reopening. We understand the need to be budget-friendly:
- Happy Hour: 3 - 8 pm, daily: $5 apps, $5 Cocktails and Beer/Wine specials
- Irish Fare specials
- Wine-down Wednesdays: 1/2 price wine bottles, with purchase of entree or burger
- Thirsty Thursday: $3 drafts, with purchase of entree or burger
- Fridays: $1 oysters
- Weekend Brunch: $4 Bloody Mary's & Mimosas, 10 am - 1 pm
We have received so much support from organizations like the Dupont Circle BID, Dupont Circle Main Streets, Tried and True - the D.C. United Postgame Podcast, Capital Tennis and other community groups; and from our customers. Many continue to ask, how can they help? So we wanted to share a few ideas:
- Order carryout from our online store, available for pre-paid pickup, or call to place your order (payment required at pub).
- Order delivery from GrubHub or DoorDash
- Purchase our new pub t-shirts
- Join us for on-premise dining, if comfortable. Reservations are accepted.
We know these are trying times for everyone...if there's anything we can do to support you, please let us know!
